I fought my way into professional rugby the hard way — through setbacks, uncertainty, and years of graft. Nothing was given, and that journey shaped the mindset I now coach. I work with ambitious young players who want to improve, build confidence, make the grade, earn academy places and push towards the professional game.
If you're serious about improving and prepared to work for it, I'll help you build the habits and resilience needed to perform when it matters.

The journey
From Saracens, Wasps and Caerphilly as a player, to Super Rugby with the Bulls and the Melbourne Rebels as a coach. From England 7s and Chelsea FC to academy work, schools rugby and coach education with the WRU and Argentina. The same person works with the U15 prospect chasing an academy place and the Super Rugby head coach designing a playbook. That breadth is the point.

Coach the person, not just the player.

Ben Pegna is a former professional and semi-professional rugby player and experienced high-performance coach with a global background across both 15s and 7s.
At 18, Ben travelled to New Zealand to immerse himself in the game and learn from the best at a time when rugby was transitioning into professionalism. That experience shaped his understanding of high standards and performance environments early in his career.

How Ben helps
What players, coaches and performance leaders say about working with Ben.
"His holistic approach to coaching is what makes him special. Ben genuinely cares about the well-being of his players — mentoring young people is a real passion of his, and he takes tremendous joy in seeing those under him develop both on and off the field. He has worked hard to immerse himself in the latest strength and conditioning trends, providing a full spectrum of skills to young players. I can wholeheartedly recommend him."
"Ben first and foremost coaches the person, understanding where they are and helping them move forward. His understanding of the game and in particular contact and defence mean that he would add value to any person or environment looking to improve."

"Ben was an excellent addition to our rugby program and his input has seriously accelerated both the technical understanding and love for rugby in our performance level pupils. I believe his coaching has been a pivotal role in the amazing progress our school has made. Our coaches have developed under Ben's guidance — small nuggets of wisdom and knowledge that have become a mainstay in their delivery, and this has translated over to our football coaches as well. Ben is excellent at embedding himself in the sporting culture of a school and adding to it. I would highly recommend any program bring him in for both the players' and coaches' sake."
"Having coached with Ben at academy and senior club level, I've witnessed at first hand the rapid development of players from his extensive technical and tactical knowledge. His delivery — through conditioned games and guided learning — allows players to develop their skills under pressure, encourages sound decision making and most importantly means they have a great deal of fun in the process."
"There are a few things you notice straight away that make him stand out as a coach: his knowledge of the game and work ethic. But his real strength is his player management — he managed to get the best out of me and the team. I've really enjoyed being coached by Ben and I'm sure a lot more players will."
